We Rank on Page One. Nobody's Clicking. Let's Find the Fix.

In today's rapidly changing business landscape, brands must continuously evolve to stay relevant and competitive. By strategically rebranding your company you can gain a competitive edge over other companies by realigning with your customers to provide more value to them.

The Part Nobody Talks About

Ranking on page one feels like the goal. You watch the position climb, the impressions go up, and it looks like the work is paying off.

Then you look at clicks: zero.

That's exactly where our Digital Advertising page is right now. We're averaging position 6.9 for "PPC agency Little Rock" as of mid-June. That's page one. That's a strong result for a page that was sitting at position 50 a few weeks ago.

Still zero clicks.

This post documents what we changed, why we changed it, and what we're watching over the next 30-90 days. I'll publish a follow-up with the actual numbers and next steps.

How We Got Here

The Digital Advertising page wasn't always ranking. At the start of May, it hovered around position 50 in Google Search Console. Earlier in the spring, it had dropped out of the index entirely.

At the end of May, we rewrote the full page. New meta title, new meta description, new body copy built around the StoryBrand framework. The argument at the core of the page: a click isn't always a lead, and the difference between a campaign that delivers and one that doesn't comes down to whether the strategy was built before the spend started.

That rewrite worked fast. Within three weeks, the page climbed from position 50 to position 6.9. Impressions started picking up. Google read the rewritten page as relevant to the queries we were targeting.

Still zero clicks.

What the Data Is Saying

Here's what three months of Google Search Console data shows for our Digital Advertising page:

Query Impressions Avg. Position
PPC agency Little Rock 162 6.19
little rock PPC agency 53 5.92
PPC agency near me 706 36.93
little rock PPC company 65 10.52
digital advertising Little Rock 20 13.6

The first two matter most. We're averaging between position 5 and 6 for both, which puts us on page one. But here's the problem: the page copy didn't explicitly use those phrases. Which means the snippet Google is showing for our result may not be reflecting the searcher's query back to them as clearly as the results sitting above us do.

When someone searches "PPC agency Little Rock," they want to see those words in the result they click. That's not about keyword stuffing. It's about accurate information that meets the searcher's needs. If the snippet doesn't immediately signal "this is exactly what you searched for," the click goes to the result that does.

What We Changed and Why

We didn't rewrite the page. That would've been the wrong call. The May rewrite earned the rankings, and overhauling the copy again would risk undoing what's working. Instead, we made a set of targeted changes on June 19.

A paragraph in the closing section that includes "PPC agency in Little Rock" explicitly.

The closing section was the right placement. The core content sections are what earned the position. Adding the phrase there reinforces the topical signal to Google without touching what got us to page one. It reads naturally as a transition into the CTA and captures the intent behind our two highest-impression queries at once.

An internal link to our KPI Development sub-page.

This page covers the strategy work we do before any ad spend: defining what a converted lead is actually worth, setting measurable targets, and building the framework a campaign runs on. It had 7 impressions at position 7.57 in Search Console with zero internal links pointing to it from the parent Digital Advertising page.

No internal links means no authority flowing down to it. We added a contextual link using the anchor "what a converted lead is worth" from the parent page body copy.

An internal link to our Conversion Tracking sub-page.

Same situation. This page had 1 impression at position 8 and no internal links from anywhere above it in the site. We added a contextual anchor in the same section: "we track what converts, not just what clicks."

Here's what makes this more than just link equity: none of our ranking competitors have indexed sub-pages for KPI development or conversion tracking. They have one page. We have three. Linking between them builds a map that signals genuine depth to Google, something the competing pages can't replicate without rebuilding their site architecture. That's part of what a thoughtful SEO strategy looks like in practice.

What We're Watching For

The check date for this experiment is July 19, 2026. Here's what we're measuring against the baseline:

  • "PPC agency Little Rock" holds at position 10 or better (it's averaging around 5 right now, so protecting that is the priority, not just growing it)
  • At least one click registers on either primary query
  • The KPI Development page shows any movement in impressions or position from its baseline of 7 impressions at position 7.57
  • The Conversion Tracking page shows any additional visibility from its baseline of 1 impression at position 8

What we're not expecting: a traffic spike. That's not how a brief measurement window works. What we're looking for is directional signal. Movement that tells us whether the hypothesis holds before we continue supplementing the page and apply the same approach to other services pages on the site.

Timeline Review and Strategy

Part two of this series goes live when we see clear evidence of either success or failure. I'll pull the full Google Search Console data at the 30, 60, and/or 90-day mark, compare it against every number in this post, and report what moved and what didn't. Check the journal for the follow-up when it's live.

If the changes worked, this tactic goes into our marketing strategy playbook, and we start replicating it. If they didn't, we document why and adjust. Either way, it's worth writing about.

That's the real purpose of tracking this publicly. Not to show you a success story, because we don't know yet if this is one. But to show you what an evidence-based approach to SEO looks like on a real page, in real time, from the inside.

If you're running ads in Little Rock and wondering whether your Digital Advertising is performing as well as it should, take a look at our marketing results and then start with Compass.

Part of an ongoing series.
